Getting Started

“An outstanding landscape is a rich palette of plant materials and elements that bring you pleasure and a sense of seasonal joy. It grows flowers, flourishes, evolves, and changes.

A successful landscape design is built upon a process of well-thought out steps to ensure you achieve the best possible solution in regards of short term and long term goals.

I have incorporated how I work into a thumbnail glimpse into design criteria and processes.”

Initial Design Criteria for Discussion

  • Create a Smooth Harmonious Transition of the Interior Views vs. the Exterior Views
  • Establishing a Sense of Arrival to the Site
  • The Role of the Site’s Structures Architecture
  • Existing Site Features including Drainage
  • Site Orientation Including Sun and Shade (Directional Placement)
  • Consider the Existing Plant Materials on Site in Comparison to Size and
  • Scale of Site
  • “What stays and what goes?”

PLAN AHEAD
For Landscape Watering and Maintenance

  • Initial planning discussions need to address types of watering systems and schedules. Water conservation is a crucial issue that needs to be addressed early in the design process including regular maintenance.
  • How will the landscape be maintained? And who will maintain the new landscape? All plants and trees grow and will require regular skilled maintenance.
